Giving Back to the Communities We Serve
At Reliant, we truly value the communities and regions that our branches call “home.” We strive to be involved in those communities, for they are the places where our staff and our members live, work, and play. We also know that we can’t achieve our mission of satisfying our members’ financial needs without working at the same time to enrich our communities.
The credit union philosophy of “people helping people” is alive and well every day at Reliant. We give back in many varied ways—and so rather than trying to capture every individual act, we wanted to share some numbers from 2017 that illustrate our staff and organization involvement in our communities.
102 – Number of community organizations we supported/sponsored in 2017
82 – Number of community organizations in which our staff were involved or for which our staff volunteered their time
$12,000 – Amount of Donald K. Rhine scholarship funds awarded to deserving students in 2017
17 – Number of Donald K. Rhine scholarships awarded in 2017
$159,500 – Amount of Donald K. Rhine scholarship funds awarded to deserving students since 1998
156 – Number of Donald K. Rhine scholarships awarded since 1998
400 – Number of backpacks given to students in our communities
150 – Number of pairs of high quality sneakers donated to schools to be given to students in our communities
1,220 – Number of students and community members that attended 66 free financial educational presentations conducted by Reliant staff
400+ – Number of hours Reliant staff spent volunteering at or participating in charitable events Reliant sponsored in 2017
Reliant’s Moore than a Race
Another way that Reliant gives back to the community is through our Donald K. Rhine Scholarship program. The scholarships are awarded each year to members who exemplify the credit union’s “people helping people” philosophy. In 2009, Reliant started Moore than a Race, a road race fundraiser to help raise additional funds for the scholarship program.
